The Way Church of Illumination is a Christ-centered spiritual community devoted to following the teachings and example of Jesus Christ while seeking truth through Scripture, thoughtful inquiry, historical study, and spiritual reflection.
We believe faith and the sincere pursuit of truth belong together. We encourage questions, education, freedom of conscience, compassion, integrity, and a lifelong journey toward greater spiritual understanding.
Those who choose to walk this path together are known as Companions of the Way.
The Way Church of Illumination is a community of Companions of the Way seeking to follow Jesus Christ in faith, truth, wisdom, and love.
We believe sincere faith should welcome sincere questions. Our spiritual life is grounded in Scripture while also embracing careful historical study, thoughtful inquiry, prayer, and reflection. We seek understanding not simply to acquire knowledge, but to draw closer to our Heavenly Father and to live more fully according to the example of Christ.
Education is a higher calling within the Way. We encourage each Companion to examine Scripture deeply, consider the historical world in which Christianity emerged, and seek truth with humility, integrity, and freedom of conscience.
We believe the search for truth is an important part of our devotion to God. Companions of the Way are encouraged to study the Bible deeply, prayerfully, and with an open and discerning mind.
Our study does not end with a single interpretation or tradition. We examine the historical and cultural world of Scripture and consider ancient writings and historical sources that can illuminate the world in which Jesus Christ and the earliest Christians lived. These may include writers such as Josephus, Tacitus, Pliny the Younger, early Christian writings, archaeological evidence, and the work of respected biblical and historical scholars.
Following the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:11, we believe claims should be examined carefully rather than accepted merely because an authority has made them. Faith and careful inquiry need not be enemies; the sincere pursuit of knowledge can deepen faith, strengthen understanding, and bring us closer to our Heavenly Father.
We therefore regard education as a higher calling—a lifelong pursuit of wisdom, spiritual enlightenment, and truth undertaken with humility, prayer, evidence, and love.
Companions of the Way seek to make faith visible through the way we live each day. We strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ through love, compassion, honesty, peaceful living, service to others, and respect for the dignity and freedom of every person.
We gather for prayer, Scripture study, thoughtful discussion, fellowship, the Lord’s Supper, and spiritual reflection. Questions are welcomed, conscience is respected, and no one is expected to surrender the sincere pursuit of truth in order to belong.
We also believe the human body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Caring for our physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual well-being is therefore part of our sacred stewardship before God.
Whether worshiping together, studying Scripture, serving our communities, or simply helping someone in need, we seek to live as Companions of the Way—walking in truth, living in peace, and growing together in the love of Christ.
