The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI) is a Christ-centered religious community dedicated to following Jesus Christ, honoring Heavenly Father, and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Our faith combines biblical study, prayer, meditation, education, spiritual growth, and compassionate service. We believe faith should inspire people to become wiser, healthier, more loving, and more responsible in their daily lives.
Our members are known as Companions of the Way, united in their desire to seek truth and walk in the light of Christ.
We believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and central to our relationship with Heavenly Father. We affirm His divine mission, His sacrifice, His resurrection, and the salvation offered through Him.
We encourage faith in Jesus Christ, sincere repentance, spiritual renewal, and a lifelong commitment to following His teachings.
Our faith is grounded in Romans 10:9, which emphasizes confessing Jesus as Lord and believing that God raised Him from the dead.
The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI) offers a distinctive approach to Christianity, bringing together ancient biblical wisdom, spiritual enlightenment, intellectual freedom, sacred covenants, and a lifelong pursuit of truth.
While Jesus Christ remains at the center of our faith, we believe spiritual growth encompasses every aspect of human life—our relationship with Heavenly Father, our families, our physical and emotional well-being, our education, and our service to humanity.
What distinguishes TWCI is our commitment to faith without intellectual restriction, spiritual authority without domination, and sacred traditions without unnecessary limitations on personal conscience.
We encourage members to examine Scripture in its historical context, compare translations, explore ancient religious wisdom, embrace scientific discovery, and question interpretations rather than simply accepting them because of tradition or religious authority.
Our church also embraces several distinctive principles:
Continuing spiritual illumination: We believe understanding deepens through prayer, meditation, study, personal experience, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Freedom of conscience: Members are encouraged to think independently, ask difficult questions, and pursue truth without fear of being silenced for sincere inquiry.
Sacred covenants and family: We honor both monogamous marriage and optional plural sacred marriage, believing that freely chosen, faithful covenants can foster profound spiritual development through love, humility, equality, and shared responsibility.
Equality in spiritual leadership: Qualified women and men may serve as Elders and within the Quorum of Twelve and Quorum of Seventy, exercising equal authority and responsibility.
The whole person as sacred: We emphasize physical health, emotional maturity, intellectual development, spiritual discipline, and care for the body as a temple.
Wisdom across traditions: While remaining centered on Jesus Christ, we recognize that valuable historical insights and practices may be found across religious and philosophical traditions when thoughtfully examined alongside our faith.
Leadership through service: We believe religious leaders should guide through humility, integrity, accountability, and example—not fear, coercion, or unquestioned obedience.
We do not believe that sincere faith requires abandoning reason, education, individuality, or personal responsibility.
At TWCI, faith is not merely something we profess—it is a continuing journey of illumination, discovery, transformation, and becoming more Christlike in everything we do.
Our invitation is simple: Seek truth freely. Grow in wisdom continually. Follow Jesus Christ faithfully.
Absolutely. We believe sincere questions, careful investigation, and a willingness to examine all available evidence are essential to developing a deeper understanding of Scripture and strengthening our relationship with Heavenly Father.
At TWCI, we encourage the comprehensive study of the Bible, including ancient Jewish Scriptures, historical manuscripts, various Christian biblical canons, and multiple translations of both the Old and New Testaments. We also examine early Jewish and Christian writings, historical records, and accounts of Christian activity documented by non-Christian sources during the first and second centuries.
We recognize that understanding Scripture requires examining the historical, cultural, religious, and political circumstances in which it was written. This includes studying Jewish traditions, the influence of the Roman Empire, early Christian communities, and how religious teachings were understood, practiced, preserved, and interpreted throughout history.
Rather than relying on isolated verses or inherited religious interpretations, we seek to examine entire passages, compare ancient sources, evaluate historical evidence, and consider every relevant perspective before drawing conclusions.
Our approach follows the example of the Bereans, who carefully investigated the teachings they received:
Acts 17:11 (KJV): “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
We also embrace the instruction:
1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV): “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
At TWCI, we believe truth should withstand sincere examination. Faith and reason are not enemies, and spiritual understanding should never be limited by fear of questioning established interpretations.
Our commitment is to seek truth through Scripture, historical investigation, thoughtful inquiry, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit—always keeping Jesus Christ at the center of our faith.
The Star of Illumination is the sacred emblem of our church. Its eight radiant points symbolize divine illumination, wisdom, spiritual direction, and our continuing journey toward Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ.
The Star reminds us to seek truth, cultivate understanding, and bring light, compassion, and goodness into the world.
It is a symbol of our faith, not an object of worship.
A Companion of the Way is an individual who seeks to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ while continually growing in faith, wisdom, knowledge, humility, and spiritual understanding.
At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe being a Companion of the Way is more than simply professing religious beliefs. It is a lifelong commitment to living with high moral integrity, honesty, compassion, personal accountability, and respect for the dignity of others.
We place great importance on building strong, loving families founded on equality, mutual respect, faithfulness, and shared responsibility. We encourage Companions to nurture healthy relationships, provide children with a loving and supportive environment, and uphold the highest standards of moral and ethical conduct within their homes and communities.
Education and intellectual development are also essential to our spiritual journey. We encourage higher education, professional development, scientific understanding, independent research, and lifelong learning. We believe that expanding our knowledge and developing our abilities allows us to better serve Heavenly Father, our families, and humanity.
A Companion of the Way also recognizes that genuine faith must be demonstrated through meaningful action. We place particular emphasis on caring for widows, orphans, the elderly, the vulnerable, and those experiencing hardship.Through generosity, volunteer service, charitable assistance, mentorship, and community involvement, we seek to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of others.
As James 1:27 reminds us, pure religion includes caring for the fatherless and widows in their affliction. Likewise, Galatians 6:10 encourages us to do good to all people whenever we have the opportunity.
We believe spiritual growth involves developing the whole person—spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and morally. Every Companion is encouraged to cultivate self-discipline, practice forgiveness, pursue peace, maintain personal integrity, and continually seek opportunities to become more Christlike.
Above all, being a Companion of the Way means walking a path of continual illumination—not merely seeking truth for ourselves, but using the wisdom, knowledge, and blessings we receive to uplift our families, strengthen our communities, and bring greater love, peace, and goodness into the world..
Absolutely. At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe education, scientific discovery, intellectual curiosity, and spiritual understanding are deeply connected. We view the pursuit of knowledge as an essential part of our spiritual journey and an opportunity to develop a closer relationship with Heavenly Father.
We strongly encourage higher education, university studies, skilled trades, professional development, scientific research, historical investigation, and lifelong learning. We believe that developing one's intellectual abilities is not merely a personal achievement but also a responsibility to use the knowledge and talents we have been given for the betterment of ourselves, our families, our communities, and humanity.
We believe that as individuals expand their knowledge and understanding of the world, they gain greater opportunities to appreciate the wisdom, complexity, and magnificence of Heavenly Father's creation. Through the study of science, medicine, history, philosophy, technology, and the natural world, we can deepen our appreciation for life and strengthen our spiritual connection with our Creator.
TWCI also places great importance on independent thinking and freedom of inquiry. We encourage Companions of the Way to ask meaningful questions, examine evidence, challenge assumptions, explore different perspectives, and develop conclusions through thoughtful investigation rather than unquestioning acceptance of religious or secular authority.
We believe education empowers individuals to make wiser decisions, develop stronger moral judgment, improve their physical and emotional well-being, provide greater opportunities for their families, and become more effective in helping those in need. Knowledge can equip us to care for the sick, support the vulnerable, advance our communities, and contribute to discoveries that improve human life.
Scripture itself encourages the pursuit of wisdom and understanding:
Proverbs 4:7 (KJV): “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
Proverbs 18:15 (KJV): “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.”
We believe that the more knowledge we acquire, the greater our capacity becomes to understand Heavenly Father's creation, recognize our responsibilities, and serve others with wisdom and compassion. Education, when accompanied by humility, integrity, and love, can become a meaningful pathway toward greater spiritual illumination and closeness to Heavenly Father.
At TWCI, we do not believe faith requires the rejection of reason or scientific understanding. We believe that faith, education, and the sincere pursuit of truth can work together, helping us become more knowledgeable, capable, compassionate, and Christlike throughout our lives.
At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe the human body is a sacred gift from Heavenly Father and should be treated with dignity, gratitude, and respect. Caring for our physical, mental, and emotional well-being is not simply a matter of personal health but an important part of our spiritual responsibility.
Our beliefs are rooted in the biblical teaching that our bodies are temples of God and that His Spirit dwells within us.
1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV): “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (KJV): “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
These passages form an important foundation of our belief that honoring Heavenly Father includes caring responsibly for the bodies and lives we have been given.
TWCI encourages a lifestyle centered on physical vitality, emotional balance, mental clarity, and spiritual discipline. We promote nutritious and wholesome foods, regular physical exercise, adequate sleep, proper hydration, personal hygiene, and responsible daily habits. We encourage Companions of the Way to avoid harmful excesses and practices that unnecessarily compromise their health and well-being.
We also recognize that emotional and mental health are essential aspects of a fulfilling spiritual life. We encourage self-reflection, meditation, prayer, emotional maturity, healthy relationships, forgiveness, stress management, and the development of inner peace. Seeking appropriate medical or mental health care when needed is consistent with our commitment to preserving and honoring life.
We believe that physical health and spiritual growth are closely connected. When we care for our bodies and minds, we are often better equipped to think clearly, pursue education, fulfill family responsibilities, support our communities, and extend compassion and practical assistance to others.
Our teachings emphasize personal responsibility without promoting unrealistic standards of physical perfection. We recognize that illness, disability, aging, and circumstances beyond an individual's control do not diminish anyone's spiritual worth, dignity, or relationship with Heavenly Father.
We believe that developing the whole person—physically, emotionally, intellectually, morally, and spiritually—allows us to make fuller use of the gifts and abilities Heavenly Father has entrusted to us.
At TWCI, caring for the body as a temple is an expression of gratitude, self-respect, and reverence for our Creator. Through balanced living, continual learning, and responsible stewardship of our health, we seek to honor Heavenly Father, strengthen our families, serve humanity, and walk more faithfully in the example of Jesus Christ.
At The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI), worship is a sacred and meaningful expression of our love, gratitude, and devotion to Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We believe genuine worship extends beyond traditional religious gatherings and becomes a way of life—one that encourages spiritual enlightenment, wisdom, personal growth, compassion, and a deeper relationship with our Creator.
Our worship practices combine biblical teachings, reverent prayer, meditation, sacred ordinances, spiritual education, uplifting fellowship, and meaningful service to others. We seek to create an atmosphere of peace, harmony, reverence, joy, and spiritual renewal, where individuals and families can strengthen their faith while continuing their journey toward greater understanding.
Worship Centered on Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ remains at the center of our faith, worship, and spiritual development.
We honor His divine mission, His teachings, His sacrifice, His resurrection, and the salvation offered through Him. Our gatherings encourage Companions of the Way to reflect upon His example and apply His teachings of love, humility, forgiveness, righteousness, and service in their daily lives.
We believe worship should strengthen our relationship with Heavenly Father while helping us become more Christlike in our thoughts, decisions, relationships, and conduct.
John 4:23 (KJV): “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”
We understand this teaching to emphasize that sincere worship is not confined to a particular building, ritual, or outward expression, but begins with the heart, our intentions, and our devotion to truth.
Prayer, Meditation, and Spiritual Reflection
Prayer and meditation are important elements of our worship.
We encourage Companions of the Way to develop a personal relationship with Heavenly Father through sincere prayer, expressions of gratitude, quiet reflection, repentance, and thoughtful meditation.
Meditation provides an opportunity to quiet the mind, examine one's thoughts and actions, cultivate inner peace, and reflect upon Scripture and spiritual teachings.
We believe these practices can help individuals develop greater patience, emotional balance, self-awareness, compassion, and sensitivity to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer and meditation may be practiced individually, with family members, or during organized worship gatherings.
Scripture Study and the Pursuit of Spiritual Understanding
TWCI considers the careful study of Scripture an essential part of worship.
Our gatherings may include readings from the Old and New Testaments, examination of ancient Jewish Scriptures, comparison of biblical translations, and discussion of historical writings that contribute to our understanding of early Jewish and Christian beliefs.
We encourage members to consider the historical, cultural, religious, and political circumstances surrounding biblical events, including the influence of the Roman Empire and the development of early Christian communities.
Rather than relying solely on inherited interpretations, we encourage sincere questions, thoughtful discussion, independent research, and careful examination of available evidence.
Our approach reflects the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:11, who searched the Scriptures daily to examine what they were taught, and the instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 to prove all things and hold fast to what is good.
We believe that the pursuit of knowledge, when accompanied by humility and faith, can become an act of worship that brings us closer to Heavenly Father.
Sacred Ordinances and Spiritual Covenants
TWCI recognizes sacred ordinances and covenants as meaningful expressions of faith, devotion, and spiritual commitment.
Our religious practices may include baptism by immersion, the Lord's Supper, sacred prayers, blessings, covenant ceremonies, and temple ordinances intended to encourage spiritual renewal and a deeper commitment to righteous living.
These observances are approached with reverence, personal preparation, sincere intention, and respect for the spiritual significance of each practice.
We also honor marriage as a sacred covenant, recognizing both monogamous marriage and voluntary plural sacred marriage when practiced according to our principles of love, informed consent, equality, faithfulness, personal responsibility, and the protection of every family member.
We believe sacred ordinances should never become instruments of fear, coercion, or domination. Their purpose is to encourage willing devotion, spiritual understanding, personal transformation, and greater closeness to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Worship in Temples, Sanctuaries, Homes, and Peaceful Gatherings
We believe worship can take place wherever individuals sincerely gather to honor Heavenly Father and follow Jesus Christ.
TWCI recognizes the importance of dedicated temples and sanctuaries as peaceful environments for prayer, Scripture study, spiritual instruction, sacred ordinances, meditation, and fellowship.
Our temples and sanctuaries may incorporate meaningful religious symbolism, including the Star of Illumination, representing divine light, wisdom, and spiritual direction, and the menorah, acknowledging the biblical heritage of our faith.
These symbols serve as reminders of spiritual principles and historical traditions; they are not objects of worship.
We also place great importance on worship within the home. Families are encouraged to pray together, study Scripture, practice gratitude, discuss spiritual questions, and develop daily habits that strengthen love, understanding, and unity.
We believe a peaceful home filled with love, compassion, learning, and mutual respect can itself become a sacred place of worship.
Fellowship, Peace Circles, and Community Unity
TWCI encourages meaningful fellowship among Companions of the Way through worship gatherings, shared learning, peaceful discussion, and mutual encouragement.
Our Peace Circles provide opportunities for individuals to gather in an atmosphere of respect, compassion, thoughtful listening, prayer, reflection, and spiritual conversation.
We believe fellowship should strengthen relationships, encourage personal growth, and create a community where individuals feel valued and supported.
Women and men participate with equal dignity and spiritual worth. We encourage thoughtful contributions from all participants and recognize that wisdom and understanding can be enriched through different experiences and perspectives.
Our gatherings should promote unity without demanding uniformity of thought, allowing sincere questions and respectful discussion to contribute to spiritual understanding.
Worship Through Education, Health, and Daily Living
At TWCI, we believe worship is not limited to prayer or religious ceremonies; it is also demonstrated through the way we care for ourselves, develop our abilities, and treat others.
We encourage higher education, scientific inquiry, professional development, historical research, and lifelong learning as meaningful parts of our spiritual journey.
We also teach that the body is a sacred gift from Heavenly Father, drawing upon 1 Corinthians 3:16 and 1 Corinthians 6:19–20, which describe the body as a temple of God and the Holy Spirit.
We therefore encourage nutritious food, regular physical activity, adequate rest, emotional well-being, responsible personal habits, and the continual development of the whole person.
We believe that increasing our knowledge, strengthening our health, developing moral integrity, and using our abilities responsibly can help us serve Heavenly Father and humanity more effectively.
Worship Through Compassion and Service
We believe one of the greatest expressions of genuine worship is the love and compassion we demonstrate toward others.
TWCI encourages Companions of the Way to participate in charitable activities, volunteer service, community improvement, and practical assistance to those experiencing hardship.
We place particular emphasis on caring for widows, orphans, the elderly, the vulnerable, the sick, and families in need.
James 1:27 (KJV) reminds us of the importance of visiting the fatherless and widows in their affliction.
We believe worship becomes especially meaningful when spiritual teachings are transformed into actions that relieve suffering, strengthen families, encourage education, and bring hope to others.
Service is not merely an additional religious activity; it is an essential expression of our commitment to following Jesus Christ.
A Daily Journey of Spiritual Illumination
We encourage Companions of the Way to incorporate worship and spiritual reflection into their everyday routines.
Our daily spiritual practices may include beginning the morning with gratitude, prayer, Scripture study, meditation, and thoughtful intentions; taking moments throughout the day to reflect, practice patience, and realign our actions with Christian principles; and concluding the evening with self-examination, forgiveness, gratitude, and peaceful reflection.
We believe that through these practices, individuals can gradually develop greater wisdom, self-discipline, humility, compassion, emotional maturity, and spiritual understanding.
Our purpose is not simply to conduct religious services, but to cultivate a way of life in which faith, education, family, health, moral integrity, and compassionate service work together in harmony.
Our Understanding of True Worship
At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe that worship should inspire spiritual growth rather than fear, encourage understanding rather than unquestioning obedience, and strengthen the bonds of love rather than create unnecessary division.
We seek to build a faith community where individuals can worship with sincerity, pursue knowledge freely, honor sacred covenants, strengthen their families, and contribute positively to the world around them.
We believe the greatest expression of worship is a life devoted to Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ—a life demonstrated through wisdom, humility, righteousness, compassion, continual learning, and service to humanity.
Through prayer, meditation, Scripture study, sacred ordinances, fellowship, education, and loving action, we seek to draw closer to Heavenly Father, receive the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and grow continually in the light and example of Jesus Christ.
At TWCI, worship is not merely something we attend. It is a sacred journey we live each day as Companions of the Way.
Yes. The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI) recognizes and honors both monogamous marriage and voluntary plural sacred marriage as holy and blessed covenants before Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe that both forms of marriage can provide beautiful and meaningful opportunities for spiritual growth, lasting companionship, personal fulfillment, and a deeper relationship with Heavenly Father. Whether a marriage is monogamous or plural, its sacredness is demonstrated through the love, faithfulness, integrity, compassion, and devotion of those who participate in it.
We believe the Hebrew Scriptures recognize plural marriage and that the New Testament does not explicitly establish a universal prohibition against faithful plural covenants. Through careful examination of biblical history, ancient Jewish traditions, and the historical circumstances surrounding early Christianity, TWCI understands the teachings of Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul within their broader historical and cultural contexts and does not interpret them as abolishing plural marriage.
We believe Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit welcome and bless both monogamous and plural sacred marriages when they are faithfully practiced according to principles of righteousness, love, equality, mutual respect, and devotion.
At TWCI, marriage is more than a union between individuals. It is a sacred spiritual journey that provides opportunities to develop greater humility, patience, wisdom, forgiveness, compassion, emotional maturity, and Christlike love.
We believe that those who faithfully honor their sacred marriage covenants may receive abundant blessings from Heavenly Father through the lessons learned, the sacrifices made, and the love shared throughout their lives.
Plural sacred marriage, because of its additional relationships and responsibilities, may offer distinctive and potentially greater opportunities for spiritual development. We believe these experiences can teach profound lessons in selflessness, understanding, communication, fairness, shared responsibility, and unconditional love. Through faithfully applying these lessons, individuals may experience meaningful spiritual transformation and draw closer to Heavenly Father.
TWCI further believes that plural sacred marriage represents one of the most profound and demanding holy covenants that consenting adults may voluntarily undertake. Those who faithfully embrace this sacred path and fulfill its extraordinary obligations with righteousness, humility, patience, sacrifice, and unwavering love may receive abundant spiritual blessings from Heavenly Father.
We believe these blessings extend far beyond the individuals entering the covenant. Through the continual lessons Heavenly Father provides, the entire family may experience immeasurable spiritual growth, developing deeper bonds of love, greater wisdom, stronger unity, and an increasingly Christlike spirit within the household.
We believe that those who faithfully fulfill the sacred obligations of plural marriage may grow exceptionally close to Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father through the blessings, spiritual refinement, and profound lessons that accompany this extraordinary covenant. The magnitude of its responsibilities offers exceptional opportunities to overcome selfishness, develop unconditional love, strengthen faith, and cultivate spiritual qualities that can transform the lives of every family member.
In this way, TWCI regards faithful plural sacred marriage not simply as an alternative family structure, but as a most holy and sacred undertaking through which Heavenly Father may bestow extraordinary blessings and guide an entire family toward greater spiritual illumination.
However, we do not believe that plural marriage automatically makes an individual more righteous, spiritually worthy, or deserving of Heavenly Father's blessings than someone in a monogamous marriage. Both paths can be holy, deeply rewarding, and spiritually fulfilling when lived according to Christian principles.
Our Highest Responsibilities: Consent, Equality, Family & Children
Above all, TWCI teaches that the safety, dignity, equality, informed consent, and physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of every family member are sacred responsibilities that must never be compromised.
Every adult entering a marriage covenant must do so freely, without coercion, manipulation, intimidation, or pressure. Each person deserves equal dignity, consideration, respect, and a meaningful voice in decisions affecting the household. These principles apply to both monogamous and plural marriages.
The protection, happiness, and well-being of children must always come first. We believe every child deserves:
A loving, compassionate, peaceful, and secure home where they feel valued, protected, and cherished.
Adequate nutritious food, appropriate clothing, safe housing, medical care, and the necessities of daily life.
Quality education, intellectual encouragement, and opportunities to develop their individual talents, interests, and abilities.
Emotional stability, patient guidance, affection, and healthy relationships with responsible caregivers.
Equal treatment, fairness, and protection from favoritism, neglect, exploitation, abuse, or discrimination.
An atmosphere of understanding, kindness, laughter, joy, happiness, and mutual respect that encourages healthy spiritual and personal development.
We believe that providing these necessities is not optional or secondary to religious practice. The responsibility to protect, nurture, educate, and provide for children takes precedence over the desire to enter into or expand any marriage covenant.
A household should never grow beyond its ability to provide adequate care, financial stability, emotional support, and a safe, loving environment for everyone involved.
We also believe that the spiritual and emotional growth of adults is essential to maintaining a healthy family. Marriage requires ongoing communication, honesty, personal accountability, mutual support, and a willingness to resolve disagreements with patience and understanding.
A sacred marriage should be a home of peace, harmony, devotion, equality, joy, and happiness—not a place of fear, domination, competition, or unequal treatment.
Plural sacred marriage is entirely voluntary and appropriate only for mature, consenting adults who understand its exceptional responsibilities and are prepared to uphold these principles. All participants must respect applicable civil laws, and every individual must retain freedom of conscience and the right to leave a relationship.
Plural marriage is never required for salvation, membership, or spiritual acceptance within TWCI. We equally honor monogamous marriage as a sacred and blessed covenant capable of bringing profound spiritual fulfillment and Heavenly Father's blessings.
Ultimately, we believe the true measure of any marriage is not the number of individuals within it, but the love, righteousness, integrity, equality, compassion, and spiritual growth demonstrated in the lives of its members.
At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe that when marriage is founded upon genuine love, freely given consent, equality, faithfulness, and the well-being of the entire family, it can become a beautiful and sacred journey through which Heavenly Father teaches us profound lessons, strengthens our character, and blesses our lives with greater wisdom, understanding, peace, and Christlike love.
For those who faithfully undertake the extraordinary responsibilities of plural sacred marriage, we believe these blessings may be especially profound, with opportunities for spiritual growth that are immeasurable and a deepening relationship with Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father that enriches the entire family.
For a more comprehensive biblical and historical explanation, we invite visitors to explore our Sacred Marriage & Plural Covenants teachings.
At The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI), we believe the family is one of Heavenly Father's most precious blessings and that raising children is among the most sacred responsibilities entrusted to parents and caregivers.
We believe every family should be built upon love, peace, harmony, equality, compassion, mutual respect, and devotion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. A home should be a place where every family member feels safe, valued, understood, supported, and genuinely loved.
Whether a family is established through monogamous marriage or a voluntary plural sacred covenant, TWCI teaches that the responsibilities of parenthood remain the same. The safety, protection, happiness, education, and physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual well-being of children must always come first, above personal desires or additional marital commitments.
Providing a Safe, Loving, and Nurturing Home
We believe every child deserves to grow up in an environment filled with kindness, patience, encouragement, understanding, laughter, joy, and happiness.
Parents and caregivers have a sacred responsibility to provide:
Love, safety, and emotional security: A peaceful and compassionate home where children are protected from abuse, neglect, intimidation, favoritism, and unnecessary conflict.
Proper nutrition and physical care: Wholesome food, adequate clothing, safe housing, medical care, proper hygiene, physical activity, and sufficient rest.
Quality education and intellectual development: Access to education, encouragement toward higher learning, scientific understanding, critical thinking, creativity, and opportunities to develop individual talents and abilities.
Spiritual and moral guidance: Teaching children the principles of Jesus Christ, including honesty, integrity, humility, compassion, forgiveness, responsibility, and respect for others.
Equality and individual dignity: Ensuring that every child is treated with fairness, love, and consideration, regardless of gender, personality, abilities, or family circumstances.
Healthy emotional development: Providing affection, patient communication, positive encouragement, age-appropriate guidance, and the freedom to express feelings and ask sincere questions.
We believe no child should ever feel less loved, less important, or less deserving of care because of the structure or size of their family. Every child deserves individual attention, emotional stability, and meaningful relationships with those responsible for their upbringing.
Education, Knowledge, and Spiritual Development
TWCI places exceptional importance on education as a fundamental responsibility of parenthood.
We encourage families to provide children with the strongest educational opportunities reasonably available, including academic learning, higher education, skilled trades, professional development, scientific inquiry, historical understanding, and independent thinking.
We believe that as children grow in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding, they gain greater opportunities to appreciate Heavenly Father's creation, develop their abilities, and become closer to Him through the responsible use of what they learn.
Education should prepare children not only to become self-sufficient and capable adults but also to become thoughtful, compassionate individuals who can contribute meaningfully to their communities and help those in need.
As Proverbs 22:6 (KJV) teaches:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
We understand this responsibility to include setting a positive example, encouraging sound judgment, nurturing curiosity, and helping children develop a lifelong appreciation for learning and spiritual growth.
Equality, Responsibility, and Family Unity
We believe strong families are built through shared responsibilities, mutual respect, open communication, and the willingness of adults to place the needs of children ahead of their own preferences.
Within both monogamous and plural sacred marriages, parents and caregivers are expected to demonstrate high moral integrity, emotional maturity, patience, faithfulness, fairness, and personal accountability.
In plural sacred households, these responsibilities are especially significant. The additional relationships and obligations must never diminish the attention, resources, affection, education, or emotional support provided to any child.
We teach that a family should never expand beyond its ability to provide adequately for the physical, financial, emotional, educational, and spiritual needs of every member.
Children must never be made responsible for adult marital disagreements or pressured to accept unequal treatment. Their safety, dignity, and developmental needs must remain paramount.
Raising Children to Become Compassionate and Responsible Adults
At TWCI, we believe parents should strive to raise children who demonstrate strong moral character, honesty, kindness, self-discipline, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others.
We encourage families to teach children the importance of helping their communities, showing compassion toward those experiencing hardship, respecting the elderly, and extending assistance to widows, orphans, the vulnerable, and people in need.
James 1:27 reminds us of the importance of caring for the fatherless and widows in their affliction. We believe this principle should be demonstrated through the daily actions and example of parents and caregivers.
Children should learn that genuine faith is expressed not only through worship and prayer but also through generosity, responsible conduct, service, and love for humanity.
The Spiritual Blessings of Family Life
We believe that faithfully raising a family is itself a sacred spiritual journey through which Heavenly Father teaches profound lessons in patience, sacrifice, humility, forgiveness, compassion, and unconditional love.
Both monogamous and plural sacred families may experience abundant blessings as they faithfully fulfill their responsibilities to one another.
TWCI also believes that the extraordinary responsibilities of a plural sacred household may provide distinctive opportunities for spiritual refinement, deeper family unity, and immeasurable spiritual growth when every member is treated with equality, dignity, and genuine love.
Through the challenges and blessings of family life, parents and caregivers can develop greater wisdom, emotional maturity, selflessness, and a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father.
However, we believe these spiritual blessings are inseparable from the responsibility to protect and nurture every child. No religious covenant, spiritual aspiration, or family arrangement should ever take precedence over a child's safety, happiness, education, or well-being.
Ultimately, The Way Church of Illumination teaches that the greatest measure of a successful family is not its size or structure, but the love, peace, equality, moral integrity, wisdom, and happiness experienced by those within it.
Our hope is that every child raised within a TWCI family will grow into a knowledgeable, confident, compassionate, honorable, and spiritually grounded individual—someone prepared to build a fulfilling life, contribute positively to society, care for others, and carry forward the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
We believe a truly blessed home is one where love is abundant, children are cherished, education is encouraged, equality is practiced, joy and happiness are shared, and every family member has the opportunity to grow closer to Heavenly Father.
Absolutely. At The Way Church of Illumination (TWCI), we firmly believe that women and men are equally valued before Heavenly Father and possess the same spiritual dignity, worth, and opportunities to serve within the Church.
We believe Heavenly Father has blessed both women and men with the capacity for wisdom, spiritual understanding, moral leadership, compassion, sound judgment, and the ability to guide others in following Jesus Christ.
TWCI does not recognize one gender as spiritually superior to the other, nor do we believe that authority within the Church should be determined by whether an individual is male or female. We believe that the strength, wisdom, and spiritual development of the Church are enriched when qualified women and men serve together with equal authority, responsibility, and mutual respect.
Equality in Church Leadership
TWCI affirms that qualified women and men are equally eligible to serve in all positions of spiritual leadership, including as Elders, members of the Quorum of Twelve, and members of the Quorum of Seventy.
Those serving in equivalent positions possess the same authority, responsibilities, privileges, and voting rights. No individual is granted greater authority, influence, or spiritual standing simply because of gender.
We believe that both women and men bring valuable experiences, perspectives, talents, and abilities to the Church. By working together, they strengthen the quality of leadership, encourage thoughtful decision-making, and help ensure that the needs and concerns of the entire congregation are represented.
Neither men nor women are placed above one another. Both are expected to work in harmony, exercising equal responsibility and accountability before Heavenly Father and the members they serve.
Qualifications Based on Character, Wisdom, and Spiritual Maturity
At TWCI, leadership is a sacred responsibility entrusted to individuals who demonstrate the qualities necessary to serve faithfully and honorably.
We believe those considered for leadership should demonstrate:
High moral integrity and honesty: A consistent commitment to righteousness, ethical conduct, truthfulness, and personal accountability.
Spiritual maturity and devotion: A sincere relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, demonstrated through faith, humility, compassion, and Christian living.
Knowledge of Scripture: A thoughtful understanding of biblical teachings, historical context, and the principles upon which our faith is established.
Wisdom and sound judgment: The ability to make thoughtful, fair, and responsible decisions while considering the well-being of others.
Education and intellectual development: An appreciation for higher education, independent research, lifelong learning, and the responsible application of knowledge and meaningful life experience.
Humility and compassion: A genuine willingness to listen, understand different perspectives, and place the needs of others above personal ambition.
Leadership through service: A demonstrated commitment to strengthening families, assisting those in need, supporting the vulnerable, and contributing positively to the community.
These qualifications apply equally to women and men, without preference, prejudice, or discrimination.
We also believe leadership eligibility should not depend upon whether an individual is unmarried, in a monogamous marriage, or participating in a voluntary plural sacred covenant. Spiritual character, demonstrated ability, and faithful conduct remain the essential qualifications.
Biblical Foundations for Equality and Service
We find important principles of spiritual equality and shared responsibility throughout Scripture.
Galatians 3:28 (KJV):
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
We understand this passage as affirming the equal spiritual worth and unity of all who belong to Christ.
Romans 16:1–2 recognizes Phoebe for her service to the early Christian community, while Romans 16:7 commends Junia among the early followers of Christ. These accounts contribute to our understanding of the meaningful roles women held in early Christianity, even as their precise offices and responsibilities remain subjects of historical interpretation.
We also look to the example of Jesus Christ, who taught that true greatness is found in serving others rather than exercising power over them.
Matthew 20:26 (KJV):
“But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister.”
At TWCI, we believe these principles provide a meaningful foundation for leadership characterized by equality, humility, service, and mutual respect.
Leadership Through Cooperation, Not Domination
We believe spiritual authority is a responsibility to serve, never a privilege to dominate, intimidate, control, or elevate oneself above others.
Women and men serving in leadership are expected to cooperate respectfully, listen to differing viewpoints, encourage open discussion, and make decisions guided by Scripture, sound judgment, compassion, and the well-being of the Church.
No leader should claim unquestionable authority or use religious office to suppress sincere questions, independent thinking, or freedom of conscience.
We believe decisions affecting the Church should be approached with transparency, fairness, accountability, and a genuine commitment to the spiritual welfare of its members.
Leadership appointments should be based upon demonstrated qualifications and faithful service, not favoritism, personal relationships, family connections, or preferential treatment. TWCI rejects nepotism, cronyism, and discrimination as acceptable foundations for spiritual leadership.
The Spiritual Importance of Women and Men Serving Together
We believe that Heavenly Father has endowed humanity with a remarkable diversity of gifts, abilities, experiences, and perspectives. When qualified women and men work together in spiritual leadership, the Church benefits from a broader understanding of the needs of individuals, families, and communities.
Their cooperation provides opportunities to practice humility, patience, mutual respect, thoughtful communication, and shared responsibility.
We believe neither women nor men should be viewed as secondary participants in the spiritual development, administration, or future of the Church. Both are equally important to its mission, its teachings, and its service to humanity.
By recognizing equal leadership opportunities and responsibilities, TWCI seeks to cultivate a religious community where every qualified individual may use their God-given talents to serve others, contribute to spiritual understanding, and strengthen the Church.
Our Commitment to Equal Spiritual Leadership
At The Way Church of Illumination, we believe that true spiritual leadership is measured not by gender, title, status, or personal influence, but by integrity, wisdom, humility, knowledge, compassion, and faithful service to Jesus Christ.
Women and men are called to work together as equal partners in the responsibilities of guiding, teaching, protecting, and serving the Church.
Neither is placed above the other. Neither is considered less capable or less valuable because of gender. Both are equally accountable for the authority entrusted to them, and both are equally deserving of dignity, respect, and the opportunity to serve.
Through this shared commitment to equality, TWCI seeks to build a Church guided by wisdom rather than prejudice, cooperation rather than domination, and genuine Christian love rather than personal power.
We believe that when women and men serve together in equality, humility, and mutual respect, they honor Heavenly Father, reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ, and strengthen the spiritual foundation of the entire Church.
We welcome sincere questions and thoughtful exploration.
